Upper Dolpo Trekking

Upper Dolpo Trekking is the longest trekking trail of Nepal situated in the western part of Nepal near Tibet border. It is the most beautiful and remote trekking zone of Nepal having challenging passes, hidden valleys, barren land, old Tibetan houses and an incredible view of Himalaya that makes your trip lifetime unforgettable. It is the longest trekking trail in the comparison of another popular trekking route of Nepal.

 

We begin upper Dolpo Trekking from Jumla after having a scenic flight from Nepalgunj. The trekking trail goes through alpine land and high passes with amazing Phoksundo Lake. The amazing passes of Numala and Bagala make your trip more adventure and permit to Upper Dolpo, Do Tarap which is an amazing village. Trek to Charkkha bot is amazing due to fewer tourists, fewer houses and silent nature and finally ends your trek in Jomsom after passing Sangda La.

Bon & classical Tibetan Buddhist religion, venture high passes (Numala&Bagala), beautiful old village, chortens, Stupas, Gompas, Mountain View, Barren land, SheyPhoksundo Lake, Impressive nature are the main interesting things during the trek to Upper Dolpo.

 

Trek to Upper Dolpo is a fascinating journey to the most amazing hidden land of Nepal. It was a restricted area until 1989 where trekkers were not allowed to enter in this hidden off the beaten path land. Tibetan Buddhism is mostly practiced here so, the origin of their generation is from Tibet. SheyGompa is the main destination of this trekking route where Trekkers explore old Tibetan Buddhism and classical village.

 

Upper Dolpo Trek needs special permits to get entry but needs a minimum of two tourists. There will be a great chance to explore wildlife such as Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, Blue Sheep, Tibetan Wolf, and many spices Butterflies. So, trekkers not only explore Himalaya but also investigate Tibetan Buddhism, the wild-life, and realistic existence of Tibetan people. To make a success of this trekking route, trekkers need passion to travel in the virgin land; they should prepare 6-7 hours walk per day including 3-4 high passes. Due to remoteness and hidden Tibetan Buddhism, Upper Dolpo Trek had become popular for nature and culture lovers.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu

Our Represented member from our Company assist you from Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu Nepal and drive to Hotel, and preparation for trip.

Day 2 Kathmandu Sightseeing

Our cultural tour guide takes you to show world heritage sites of Nepal such as Moneky Temple-3000 years old Temple, Old Patan City-Old King Palace, Pashupatinath-Popular Hindu Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa-biggest Buddhist Stupa. It is a full-day guided tour where our guide will explain about Nepal associating with history, Geography, religion, People and culture where you can have a cross-question to him to know about all details of Nepal.

Day 3 Kathmandu to Nepalgunj flight

Early morning fly to Nepalgunj which is located in the western part of Nepal near India-border. It is located in the Tarai region. It takes 50 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Overnight in Nepalgunj

Day 4 Nepalgunj to Jhupal flight

Today, we have a scenic flight from Nepalgunj to Jhupal; it takes 35 minute flight time to reach. Jhupal is a beautiful small village and today we will stay here due to arrangements porters and other remaining equipment for trekking.

Day 5 Jhupal to Cheepka 2840m 5-6 hrs walk

Today is the first day of our trekking to Upper Dolpo where we walk down through the vegetable terrace field to the river called Thuli Bheri. There is the entrance of SheyPhoksundo National Park which is the largest national park of Nepal with an area of 3555 km/sq. We will hike through local villages, pine forests, and Bamboo forests. Overnight at Cheepka.

Day 6 Cheepka to Palam 3825m 6 hrs walk

Today, too we begin our trek from Cheepka to Palam. During hiking, we cross the beautiful forests following the local river. After Crossing Reechi and Chumuwar village, we reach an Amchi Hospital where there is Tibetan traditional medicine. Trekkers can check the body and take some herbs and numerals.

Day 7 Palam to Phoksundo Lake 3625 m 5 hrs walk

After breakfast, we begin our trekking from Palam to Phoksundo Lake. First, we climb steep and can see a beautiful waterfall of 107m high which is known as the Phoksundo waterfall. We cross Ringmo village which is very beautiful and fascinating. Here, people practice Bon Po religion which came from Tibet many years ago. Doplo was the center of Bon kingdom.

Day 8 Explore Phoksundo Lake

Today is the rest day or you can explore around Phoksundo Lake. It is the deepest lake of Nepal with a stunning view of Himalaya.

Day 9 Phoksundo to SallaGhari 3640m 5-6 hrs walk

From today, we will enter Upper Dolpo need a restricted area permit of 500$ per person. We follow the popular trail called Caravan. This is the main trail to Tibet where local people used when they had trade connection with Tibet. We will reach in Ringmo after crossing beautiful forests and can see beautiful mountains around. The amazing view of KanjirowaHimal makes your trip lifetime memorable.

Day 10 SallaGhari to Lartsa 4125m 6 hrs walk

By leaving SallaGhari, we trek to Lartsa today. There are big rock walls and cross the wall and enter the narrow gorge. It is more challenging and adventure day due to high altitude or elevation.

Day 11 Lartsa to SheyGompa 4325 m 7 hrs walk

Today we cross adventure pass of Kang La which is 5350 m high. It is also called Ngadra La Pass. We descend down after crossing Kang La and reach to SheyGompa. SheyGompa is a very unique village having few old houses and Gompas. The monastery of SheyGompa was built in 900 years ago where old Tibetan monks live and chant mantra OM Ma Ne Pad Me Hum. You can also chant peace mantra and play the prayer wheel and walk around from the right-hand side. Today you will more cultural after visiting SheyGompa.

Day 12 Explore Shey Gompa

Today is the rest day and you can explore SheyGompa. There is also another beautiful Gompa called TsakangGompa. There is Kagyupa monastery which was founded by Lama Ten Skin Ra Pa which was built 900 years ago. People also practice Bon Po religion here also combines Buddha teaching with animism. There is Crystal Mountain which is very beautiful. Explore around SheyGompa today.

Day 13 SheyGompa to Namgung 4435 m 6 hrs walk

Today, we cross Sheyla Pass which is located in 5000 meters. We can also see the beautiful mountains which are situated in the Tibetan plateau, where the east part there is the Mustang region. We descend to Namgung which is a very nice place to stay due to people welcoming.

Day 14 Namgung to Saldang 4045 m 4 hrs walk

We trek to Saldang by leaving Namgung through climbing a steep slope. We climb up to 4700 meters and walk down to Saldang which is the biggest village in Upper Dolpo. Saladang is one of the popular villages in the whole Dolpo. It was the trade center from Tibet to Saldang. Explore around Saldang village.

Day 15 Saldang to Sibu 4000 m 5-6 hrs walk

Today, we go to Sibu  from Saldang through the terrace rice field, Chortens Mani Wall and a beautiful monastery called Chaiba. We descent to Namdo village which is also a beautiful place to have rest and explore around and hike to KhongKhola. Finally, we will reach in Sibu which is situated near the river bank.

Day 16 Sibu to Jengla 4480 m 5 hrs walk

Today we trek to Jengla from Sibuby following river valley and some dense forests. The trail is more calm and peaceful so trekkers feel romantic with nature and Himalaya. Overnight at Jenga today.

Day 17 Jengla to Tokyo Gaon 4245m 6 hrs walk

As usual, we start our trek to Tokyo Gaon after crossing Jeng La from where we can see the amazing view of Dhaulagiri and more white Himalayan Peaks. Then descend to Tarap valley which is a green valley and beautiful path to walk. Tarap is a fantastic valley with plants and greenery which grows in Himalaya. During hiking, we will see many Gompas and Chortens. Overnight at Tokyo Gaon.

Day 18 Tokyo Gaon to DhoTarap 4200m 3-4 hrs walk

The trail to DhoTarap is very easy and comfortable also can have an amazing picture of Mani Wall and Chortens. We cross the French School of DhoTarap and finally reach the destination. There are 34 houses in DhoTarap where people practice Bonpo religion. Also, we will have chance to explore Buddhist Gompa and Thanka Painting which they make themselves.

Day 19 DhoTarap to Serkam 3625 m 6-7 hrs walk

From DhoTarap we hike to Serkam by following TarapKhola where the trail goes downhill. We cross the narrow gorges with local rivers can see blue sheep, yaks, and mountain goats. Also, have a chance to see Sheep and Goat Pastures during the hike down to Serkam. There is the first modern suspension bridge which is easy to use for local people in their day to day life.

Day 20 Serkam to Tarakot 2300m 5 hrs walk

Our destination today is moving to Tarakot from Serkam by crossing rivers, suspension bridges, and local villages. We will see the farmland such as Barley, buckwheat, Green Beans and Marijuana. Tarakot is an old town where local people say Dzong, meaning fort. Tarakot was the capital of Dzong before Gorkha dynasty. Overnight at Tarakot.

Day 21 Tarakot to Dunai 2110m 5 hrs walk

Today, most of the walk is going down to Dunai from Tarakot. We walk beside Bheri River and finally reach the Dunai village. Explore around Dunai village.

Day 22 Trek to Jhupal from Dunai 2400 m

From Jhupal we hike up to Jhupal for next morning flight to Nepalgunj after having beautiful Upper Dolpo Trek. Overnight at Jhupal and say goodbye to local porters.

Day 23 Fly to Nepalgunj from Juphal and to Kathmandu

Early morning, fly to Nepalgunj from Jhupal and fly to Kathmandu in the day time.

Day 24 Free day in Kathmandu

 

Today is a free day for shopping and rest.

Day 25 Departure to Home
